Week of 12/9/13

Science this week:

Today decide how you would like to present your test on Newton's Laws of Motion. You may choose from a variety of methods including, writing an expository essay, writing a fictional story (Narrative Style), writing a graphic novel, poetry, song, power point, poster with an oral presentation, or something else to get the job done.

Wednesday you will complete the foldable and use that to begin your test. If needed you will work on your test at home and submit it to me on Friday or you may have time in class on Friday to complete your test. Test is worth 40 points.


Social Studies:

Due Tuesday is your poster on Scarcity and Three examples of Specialization written in your notebook.

Due Thursday is your poster on Specialization. Each poster is worth 20 points.

First and last name in pencil on the backside. This is due on Tuesday, December 10th, and it is worth 20 points. Feel free to research scarcity in other countries as well as ours. Thinks locally or personally as well. Be creative! Be original!

Workbook pages 67-70, Questions 1-3, and page 70, is due on Wednesday.

Science fair people are meeting two weeks from today, DECEMBER 2nd. Be ready to share out and ask questions. I will assign your presentation date so you must be ready to let me know if you would like to present before Christmas break.

They include: Dry Yeast,One Tablespoon of Sugar, One 1 liter bottle with 3 Tablespoons of Vinegar in it, 1 Tablespoon of Baking Soda, and One Balloon.

Students are to study for their Social Studies test on Chapter one, Section Two, Pages 14-21. They have a corrected study guide to prepare for the test.

Reminder: This Friday is Current Events. For some it is mandatory, for others it is optional. Students are aware if they need to complete this assignment.

Tomorrow for science students will engage in a measurement lab. Chapter Two covers measurement.

Imagination Theater is coming soon. Please see that the requirements are met in order to enjoy the show.

Social Studies homework tonight is to complete two worksheets as a review of chapter one.
Complete the ten question study guide for Section Two in chapter one.  Textbook pages 15-19.
This is due on Tuesday, 9/24/13.  Test on 9/26/13.

Students will begin working out of their composition books in Science on Monday.  This is a response journal and will be graded.  Please be sure they have a composition book.  Writing throughout the curriculum  supports reading comprehension and vocabulary development.

Beginning Friday, September 27th, and every other Friday after that, we will begin Current Events Friday.  This will be offered as extra credit for either Science or Social Studies depending on the subject reported on. Students are limited to Science and Social Studies (History).  It may be local, state, national, or international news.  The article and report must come from a credible source (Newspaper, Internet, not the National Inquirer).  Reporting out to the class will be optional.  More points will be given for doing so.  I have chosen to make this mandatory for some students based on their needs.
